Last year, the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and MNFF announced a multi-year partnership to honor a director's excellence in the integration of original music into film.  The inaugural VSO award went to Vermont filmmaker Jesse Kreitzer, for his short film "Black Canaries." The award brings together the filmmaker with a rising composer for his or her next film. Teaming up with Vermont composer Paul Dedell, Jesse Kreitzer has created a dynamic event that will showcase their creative process and present a seven minute work-in-progress scene from his new  documentary titled "Caregivers."  A cohort of the VSO will play Paul Dedell's score live during the screening of the scene. VIRTUAL REALITY COMES TO MNFF

As part of its partnership with the MNFF, the prestigious Jacob Burns Film Center will present six short films from the Fall 2016 Creative Culture semester, which will be screened at the Marquis Screening Room on Saturday, August 26 at 10:30a. In addition, JBFC is offering Alex Gonzalez' Beyond The Mountain, a Virtual Reality short,  which will be MNFF's very first VR film exhibition! We've reserved a handful of spots for our filmmakers to experience this VR Showcase. We are thrilled to unveil a new partnership between the MNFF and the prestigious Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) in Pleasantville, NY! At the Closing Night Ceremonies on Sunday, August 27, the JBFC's Creative Culture Director Sean Weiner will select one filmmaker to receive the new Jacob Burns Film Center Creative Culture Award. The recipient of this award will join the spring 2018 semester of the Creative Culture program as a filmmaker-in-residence, actually living on the Burns campus. The MNFF will honor the filmmaking duo of Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg at its 3rd Annual event this August with a VTeddy Award for “Sustained Excellence in Documentary Filmmaking” at the Closing Ceremonies following a tribute screening of their most recent film, “Marathon: The Patriots Day Bombing.” The screening is slated for Sunday, August 27 at 4pm at the Town Hall Theater.  Stern and Sundberg will appear on stage with MNFF Artistic Director Jay Craven for an extended Q&A at the film’s conclusion.
