MEET THE INTERNS

As the 4th Annual Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival approaches, we’re excited to welcome our new interns to the team! Isabel Merrell and Munya Munyati, both Middlebury College students, are already working hard to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever.

Isabel Merrell, Midd ‘19.5, is the MNFF Business Intern. She’ll be managing projects including sponsorship support, filmmaker housing and web content management.

Though I’m not a filmmaker myself, I have worked on a bunch of my friends’ film projects producing songs for soundtracks or assistant directing or acting as an extra in a pinch. During the school year I spend most of my time out of class performing with my a cappella group (the Middlebury Mamajamas!), with my improv group (The Otter Nonsense Players!) and with a band of fellow Midd students around town. I am a History major and a Music minor, two different mediums of storytelling. With MNFF I hope to learn more about the cinematic approach to storytelling: how to represent narratives visually, thematically and in dialogue. This summer will entail a lot of organizational tasks as well as a ton of cool and creative people, a balance I am excited to take on. See you all at the festival!

Munya Munyati, Midd ’20, is the MNFF Videography Intern. You’ll see Munya around the Festival documenting events and panels. He’ll also create our festival trailer.

I am a rising junior from Harare, Zimbabwe and have always had an interest in film. Film has always been a part of my life, whether I was making home movies as a child or learning more about the Zimbabwean Film Festival Trust run by my father. I am excited to get involved in the fourth installment of MNFF through his videography internship. I also hope to meet people in the world of film and learn more about the industry that I one day hope to be a part of.

Welcome to the team, Isabel and Munya! And now, off to work…
