SYNOPSIS
This labor of love by Hollywood screenwriter Bill Phillips, profiles Sabra Field. Born in 1935, Vermont-based Field achieved fame for masterful printmaking. The film explores Field’s most popular images – New England pastoral motifs – and asks why some critics dismiss the pastoral as an appropriate subject for contemporary art. The film investigates her decision to interpolate a variety of stylistic influences in defiance of commercial demands and discusses how intense personal tragedies have impacted Field’s work.
